Yoga Therapy
As a therapist working with people struggling with poor sleep, excessive worry, trouble focusing and high reactivity it felt important to work somatically (with the body) to create more calm physically and mentally.
I qualified as a yoga teacher seven years ago and have done specialist training in yoga for anxiety and trauma. I have lots of experience working with groups and individuals, including successfully setting up and delivering groups at Durham and Leicester University.
Yoga for anxiety combines traditional yoga practices with therapeutic principles. Sessions include gentle movement, specific yoga postures, breathing techniques, mindfulness, meditation and space for proper relaxation.
The main benefits are:
Stress Reduction: Through mindful movement and conscious connected breathing, yoga therapy helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety levels
Emotional Regulation: Regular practice aids in balancing the body's response to stress, fostering a sense of calm and emotional stability
Body Awareness: By enhancing body awareness, you can better understand yourself and your needs, enhancing self-regulation
Mind-Body Connection: Integrating the mind and body encourages self-awareness and self-compassion
Safe Environment: Yoga therapy provides a safe, supportive space for you to explore and process emotions
